Conservation Specialist

Description of Services

The Agricultural Stewardship Association (ASA) is a community-based accredited land trust dedicated to working with landowners in Rensselaer and Washington Counties to protect farms and forest land from development using conservation easements. Since 1990, ASA has protected nearly 28,000 acres on 158 easements. Our mission also includes activities to support the vibrant agricultural economy of our region and to help identify the next generation of farmers. ASA participates in the Regional Navigator program administered by American Farmland Trust. We serve as a resource for farm-seekers and land owners.

Our organization was created by farmers who saw the land base disappearing and wanted to find a way to protect it for future generations. Since 1990, ASA has worked with hundreds of farmers to help permanently conserve their land with easements. Many of our staff and board are also famers.
