Description of Services
CCE Tompkins provides direct assistance to farmers in a variety of ways:
- We provide information about grants, business planning, marketing strategies, and educational opportunities.
- We meet with farmers at their farms to assess soil health and crop production issues.
- We assist farmers with farmland transition, farmland protection, and farmland access. This includes serving as a Regional Navigator for the Farmland for a New Generation NY program (www.nyfarmlandfinder.org). As part of this program, we help farmers find land and negotiate leases. We also help retiring farmers and non-farming landowners find farmers for the land.
- We support community building efforts among farmers, including quarterly farmer social gatherings.
